Every thing had been going well until one day when she had been going through the empty Dinning Hall wiping tables and picking up dishes that had been left behind, without realizing it she started humming a little tune she had heard. Looking all around and finding no one, she relaxed. No one knew she had perfect pitch and a perfect memory to match it. She could hear something once then hum or sing it. When she was sure she was alone Shammy continued to hum as she went about her chore. She totally enjoyed the little tune.
Shammy didn‘t realize that she had been watched until voice behind her made her jump then yelp in surprise. She dropped her cleaning rag when she spun around. Shammy had found herself looking up into the face of an older Harper she didn’t know. He had his arms crossed and the look he gave Shamara scared her. The Harper also had raised one eyebrow in question. He told her the music she had been humming was something he recently wrote, and he wanted to know where she got it from since the first time it he had played it was the night before.
Without answering him Shammy panicked. She gave the Harper a pale scared look. Not knowing what else to do, she curtsied then fled from the dining Hall with her stack of dishes leaving her rag behind. How she made it to the Kitchens in one piece she would never know. Grateful the Kitchens were empty, or so she thought they were at a quick glance, Shammy covered her face with her hands and burst into tears.
"Now I've gone and done it" she cried burying her face further into her hands...…”What will happen to me now?” she sobbed as she rocked back and forth.
A shifting of feet and a clearing of a throat had Shamara groaning on top of her tears. The Harper had caught up with her. She started babbling right away about how she had been on her way back to the kitchens with the used plates from a classroom that had gotten out late, and she had stopped to listen because the little tune caught her attention and she liked it so much. Meanwhile the Harper had taken her arm gently in his and stood her up while she continued to cry out her story. Honestly she didn’t mean to do anything wrong by humming the tune, she was sorry if she had done anything wrong. And all her life she could sing or hum anything musical she heard, was she in trouble?
Next thing Shamara knew, she was behind a desk in a classroom. She had met a Master Harper where she told her story again about the song and anything she heard she could sing and and and….that’s how she ended up being an apprentice, sitting in a classroom and being taught how to do things correctly. She was so excited she couldn’t stand herself.
